    MoU Signing - ITE and NCL Oct 2019

     

    NCL was proud to jointly host and organise MOU Signing Ceremony and Capture The Flag with ITE College East,an event that marked the start of a three-year collaboration between both institutes. The aim of the collaboration is to provide ITE students with a 24*7 environment to learn and practice to enhance their cybersecurity skills.

    ICE71 Visit

     

    NCL is a proud collaborator and partner of Innovation Cybersecurity Ecosystem at Block71 (ICE71),the region’s first cybersecurity entrepreneur hub.For the second consecutive year, NCL hosted site visit to explain about NCL's resources to attendess from ICE71's Accelerate program. NCL continues to offer support to the startups from ICE71 and will continue to forge partnerships with them in the future.

    NCL at Govware 2019

     

    NCL at Govware from 1-3 Oct 2019 which was part of SICW 2019 - organised by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and is the region's premier cybersecurity conference and exhibition.

    Visit by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean

     

    Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean visited the National Cybersecurity R&D Lab (NCL) and the Singapore Cybersecurity Consortium (SGCSC) on 24 October 2017. The aim of the visit is to understand how NCL enables cybersecurity R&D and technology build-ups and translations in academia, industry and agencies with their cybersecurity research environments and outreach activities. The NCL and SGCSC team had a meaningful presentation and discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on strategies and concepts used through research, tools and process management development, education training and activities.

  • More new servers arrive in Oct 2017

     

    NCL is expanding its compute cluster to about 200 physical servers, with a few high-end servers and GPU servers. Users can run larger scale experiments, or experiments with special hardware requirements like GPU's. It strengthens NCL's support to the local cybersecurity R&D community. The new servers will be ready by this year end.

    GovernmentWare (GovWare) 19 to 21 Sep 2017

     

    GovernmentWare (GovWare) is the region's most established premier conference and showcase for cybersecurity. GovWare is the cornerstone event for the Singapore International Cyber Week. National Research Foundation (NRF) organised a joint booth with National Cybersecurity Lab (NCL) and Cybersecurity Consortium at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre. Dr Zhang Chun Wang, Research Fellow from NCL presented on Supporting Malware Analysis using NCL: WannaCry Case Study. The NCL team has the opportunity to network and share insights to the cybersecurity community.

    NCL User Forum II

     

    NCL organized the NCL User Forum II, in conjunction with the Singapore Cybersecurity Consortium Technology Talk III, on 25th August 2017 at NUS School of Computing. This joint event aims to bring together representatives from Consortium member companies, researchers and students in IHLs, RIs, government agencies as well as NCL users to share and showcase recent cybersecurity research work and projects. Associate Professor Liang Zhenkai, one of the lead-PI's of NCL, was invited to give a talk titled "WannaCry Ransomware Analysis in NCL's Environment & Demo". Prof Liang gave a comprehensive introduction to NCL and, using the WannaCry ransomware as an example, demonstrated how NCL testbed could be used to simplify and facilitate researchers'experimentation effort. Following that, Dr. Zhang Chunwang, Programme Manager of NCL, gave an update on the new capabilities and features available on the NCL testbed, including vulnerability environment platform, virtual enterprise networking environment and SDN provisioning tool. This joint event was well received from local cybersecurity R&D community with around 80 registered participants.

  • NTU Workshop

     

    Associate Professor Liang Zhenkai, one of the lead-PI 's of NCL, was invited to give a talk at the Workshop on Vulnerability Discovery and CTF Competition, which was hosted in NTU on 26th August 2017. This workshop aims to bring together researchers and students working on security vulnerabilities for discussions and knowledge sharing. Prof Liang presented his recent research work on binary security, and demonstrated how NCL testbed and its ready-made security environment can be used to facilitate his research work. This workshop had attracted quite a number of researchers and security professionals from NTU, NUS, DSO, etc.

    NCL Demo at Cyber Security Showcase

     

    Invited by our U.S. partner, Information Sciences Institute (ISI) of the University of Southern California (USC), NCL presented a demo on the NCL system and capabilities at the DHS 2017 Cyber Security R&D Showcase and Technical Workshop in Washington, D.C. This three-day workshop was organized by U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), S&T Cyber Security Division (CSD), featuring 115+ technology presentations of CSD-funded cybersecurity R&D projects. The ISI team received an award (CYBER IS A GLOBAL SPORT) for the excellent joint work with NCL as well as other international partners.

    NCL officially launched at NUS on 21 Feb 2017

     

    The National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratory (NCL) was officially announced at the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 21 February, which was graced by Guest-of-Honour Mr Gabriel Lim, Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Communications and Information. Professor Mohan Kankanhalli, Dean of the NUS School of Computing mentioned that NCL would foster greater collaboration between the industry and academia, and catalyse the development of cutting edge cybersecurity solutions. Already, research institutions and industry players have tapped on the lab's infrastructure to work on about 20 research projects.

  • FinTech Festival Lab Crawl 2016

     

    In conjunction with the Singapore FinTech Festival 2016, NCL invited NUS Dean’s Chair Assistant Professor in Computer Science, Prateek Saxena and CloakApps Chief Technology Officer Dr. Li Qiming to give a talk about blockchains and blockchain-based services. The event was well-received with over 60 registered participants from various industries.

    User Forum for Cybersecurity R&D Testbeds

     

    In collaboration with our partner from the United States, NCL is honored to invite Miss Terry V. Benzel, Deputy Director for the Computer Networks Division at the Information Sciences Institute (ISI) of the University of Southern California (USC) as the distinguished guest speaker for this user forum. At the forum, participants are introduced to ISI DeterLab and concept of cyber ranges. They also get to interact with the team over from ISI.

    Visit by Director DHS (S&T)

     

    Dr Douglas Maughan, Director of the Department of Homeland Security (Science&Technology Division) visited NCL on the 5th of May, 2016. He was given a brief introduction to NUS School of Computing and NCL, including our research focuses and capabilities, facilities, as well as collaborations with government agencies, industries and academia. In particular, he was very interested in our collaboration with USC ISI team and commented on the good work we have been doing towards future testbeds.

  • Arrival of new server

     

    Our newly purchased servers have arrived on 20 April 2016. 100 machines will be up and running by the end of April 2016.

    NCL opening workshop 15 April 2016

     

    NCL held it's first mini-workshop to allow internal stakeholders and supporting staff from the Information Technology Unit&Research Office to have a better understanding of NCL and it's activities.

    National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratory at NUS School of Computing to be ready by end-2016

    The National Cybersecurity R&D Laboratory that will be set up by the security research group at the NUS School of Computing, will be operational by the end of this year. The new laboratory will be a shared national research infrastructure which can be used by the local research community and industry for the validation of research outcomes, for collaborative work with industry or international partners, and to curate useful datasets for cybersecurity experiments.
